Silver fox, salt and pepper, wisdom highlights, glitter, you’ve probably heard them all… whether you’re an early bloomer and getting those greys in your 20s or later on in life! There are a few things you should know.

Sure, it means you’re getting older, but is that really a bad thing? You’re showing off that you’re more mature, distinguished, wise and reaching your peak! You have a chance to own it! But I get it, you don’t fancy looking like Brucie, well, you don’t have to, grey hair doesn’t mean drab.

So, let’s start off with the basics. Using a good shampoo and conditioner can honestly make all the difference, you can even use toning sets that are a daily or weekly neutraliser for your hair. Now I am by no means talking about at-home hair dyes, for the love of god, don’t do it! I mean ‘Silver Shampoos’, which counteract brassy tones giving your hair a shinier appearance and its tone more clarity. But back to ‘good’ shampoos and conditioners. You may be tempted to buy a cheap pair, but this could actually be ruining your hair with every wash! They can be unsympathetic, and really drying on your hair and scalp. Talk to your stylist about what would best suit your hair texture, a good hair cleanser truly is the foundation to easy hairstyling.

Whilst we’re on hair styling, lets talk about your style and routine. It’s best that your stick to (or as close to) monthly appointments, it keeps you looking fresh and sharp rather than moving towards a Gandalf the Grey type of a look.

Now I am going to admit it, with grey hair, comes thinning. Greys are also coarser, so what you used to do with your hair might not work anymore. So really do listen to what your barber is telling you! It might be a bit of a learning curve if you’ve had the same haircut for years. There are a range of products you might find will become your new staple that you may have never heard of! And generally speaking, if you’re wanting to look younger, don’t dye your hair, change your hair cut! Just have a chat with your stylist, they are always full of ideas!

Confidence always has and always will be the best accessory to your look, but if you really do want to cover it, please don’t just grab some ‘Just For Men’ and muddle through alone! Head into your salon and talk to a professional so we can work through it together. They will be able to support you with choosing a colour that will look natural and suit your complexion. Professional hair colour also uses chemicals that are less damaging to your hair and they for one, know what they’re doing!

But no matter what you choose to do, don’t be afraid of looking like an old man. You’re only as young as you feel and you can still be old and sexy! Plus grey hair is in fashion, so you’re really just getting a desired look for free!
