So, no one taught you how to shave?

Okay, so maybe someone attempted to show you but here is how you really get that perfect shave! It’s all in the preparation. If you want that silky, smooth shave then you need the skin to go with it!

Just for reference, I would suggest you start with hair that is a maximum of half a centimetre long, else you won’t get the product to your skin, it’ll just sit on your whiskers, so if it’s any longer than that, just take it down with your clippers!

Ready? Let’s go!

  1. Wash your face, make sure you have a clean base to work with!
  2. Exfoliate, getting rid of that top layer of skin will really aid the glide of your razor.
  3. Steam your face over bowl of hot water with a towel over your head or use a hot towel, this will open up those pores and soften your bristles. You could even do this by having a piping hot shower, it does the same thing!
  4. Pre-shave oil, using oil means you can see what you’re doing especially with line-ups for your beard
  5. Pull your skin tight! As we get older, the elasticity in our skin depletes, but whatever age you are, the tighter you pull your skin, the closer the shave.
  6. Shave with the grain, this means follow the direction your hair is growing. This will take down any length and also reduce chance of any irritation you may normally experience when shaving.
  7. Shave against the grain, but only do this if you tend not to get too irritated.
  8. Face mask, lock in any of that moisture and greet your top, new layer of skin kindly.
  9. Wash off with cold water, close those pores and
  10. Post-shave balm (better known as moisturiser!) this specifically has an astringent in it so you won’t get the discomfort of an after shave whilst also keeping your skin soft.
  11. Talcum powder, the secret to get rid of any oily residue and any blotchy redness!

Et voila! Your face is baby smooth and you have just achieved the perfect shave! Just remember, if you’re doing a line up on a beard, make sure you don’t forget your beard oil!
